Concepts for Comping: Lesson 15

Song: Bluesette

Continuing our application of open and close-voiced 7th chords (Shell Voicings) to specific songs. How about a waltz?

So we strum 3 per bar instead of 4. When strumming threes, emphasize the “one.”

A huge percentage of this tune is a descending Whole-Tone scheme (see Lesson 7).

VIDEO LESSON: COWBOY CHORDS:

INTRODUCTION AND G MAJOR

This is the first video in a 15-lesson series. More free content is on the product page HERE. The stats from my website indicate there is a high degree of interest in “Cowboy Chords” so…

The above video is the beginning of a new section I'm trying out in these monthly newsletters…a little experiment to see if there's interest in something like this. You don't have to be a Site Member to access this.

The subject of the video each month will be random; no necessary connection to the previous video or the subsequent video.

This is an attempt on my part to further leverage some of the content on Master Guitar School's YouTube Channel.

Right now, there are 467 videos there, most of them hidden. They do not appear on the channel, nor do they appear in searches. You have to have the link, which is only available on MasterGuitarSchool.com or is contained in a PDF downloaded from MasterGuitarSchool.com…and now in this newsletter.

Up to now, I've used YouTube only as a storage/streaming vehicle for the videos. I have not used YouTube as a marketing platform. I'm starting to think about changing that.

If you have any questions or suggestions for topics you'd like to see covered, contact me HERE.

Raise the Dead with Songs? “Musical Transcendence” is something in which I have a deep interest…

This is a picture taken from a gig on March 22nd. This was the first time I’ve used that guitar on a gig in over 20 years. You may recognize it as the main guitar I use in my teaching videos. It's a 1979 Ibanez Artist and the story of the guitar is HERE,

Jay EuDaly with Ibanez Artist at BB’s

Even though I characterize myself as “semi-retired” I still average 2-4 gigs a week. Almost all of my gigs are in the greater Kansas City region. My gig schedule is HERE

Or you can go to my personal FaceBook page; upcoming gig announcements are posted there, plus I do several livestreams a month.

TUNE OF THE MONTH

From my CD, “Sound Tracks.” Kind of a Joe Satriani-esque Rock instrumental.

HOW ABOUT 5 LESSONS?

The 5-Lesson Foundational Series teaches the Circle of Keys as an organizational mechanism by which you ensure that whatever you learn is drilled in every key in all possible positions. It also gives you a method to find any note, anywhere, without memorizing note names on every string. That is a beautiful thing!

Almost every lesson I teach presupposes these 5 lessons.

You can download the 5-Lesson Foundational Series right here with no further obligation or commitment:
